Involvement of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in experimental uric acid nephropathy.

BACKGROUND Deposition of uric acid in the kidney can lead to progressive tubulointerstitial injury with granuloma formation. We hypothesized that uric acid crystal deposition may induce granuloma formation by stimulating local expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), which is a known mediator of delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH). MATERIALS AND METHODS A model of acute uri...

Late-onset primary hyperoxaluria diagnosed after renal transplantation presented with early recurrence of disease.

Intratubular crystal deposition in transplanted patients is very rare and can be a cause of renal graft failure. Oxalate is a major component of the most common type of kidney stones, calcium oxalate stones. Hyperoxaluria is either inborn or acquired. Primary hyperoxaluria (PH) is a rare autosomal recessive disease resulting from deficiency of hepatic alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase (AGT) (...

گزش‌های متعدد زنبور عسل: گزارش چهار مورد

Background: Insect stings can cause local or systemic reactions that range from mild to fatal, and are among the most common causes of anaphylaxis. The major allergens of honeybee venom are phospholipase A2, hyaluronidase, acid phosphatase, allergen C and melitin. Phospholipase and melitin induce hemolysis, rhabdomyolysis and liver damage due to cell membrane breakdown, damage of the vascular e...

Nephrocalcinosis: new insights into mechanisms and consequences.

The most common form of renal stone disease, calcium nephrolithiasis, is defined as the presentation of a macroscopic concrement of inorganic (calcium phosphate and/or calcium phosphate) and organic material in the renal calyces and/or pelvis, either adhered to the papillae or pelvic urothelium or not. In search of the mechanism underlying calcium nephrolithiasis, in vitro and in vivo studies a...

Reversible acute renal failure from gross haematuria due to glomerulonephritis: not only in IgA nephropathy and not associated with intratubular obstruction.

Seven patients with acute renal failure due to gross haematuria caused by glomerulonephritis are described. Gross haematuria lasting 4-40 days led to acute impairment of renal function of variable severity (peak plasma creatinine 1.3-12 mg/dl) and duration. While partial recovery of renal function occurred in all patients within few days, complete remission was observed only some months later. ...
